Madison Veterinary Specialists | Madison, WI
Madison Veterinary Specialists (MVS) is a 24/7 AAHA-accredited emergency and specialty hospital and a VECCS Level II Certified Veterinary Trauma Center. We are seeking an advanced-level Certified Veterinary Technician to join our highly specialized Nephrology & Dialysis service, working directly with our board-certified Criticalist and Nephrologist.
This is not an entry-level role. This position is designed for a technician who thrives in high-acuity medicine, values precision, and wants to practice at the top of their license.
Our Nephrology & Dialysis service manages:
- Hemodialysis cases
- Acute kidney injury
- Complex renal failure
- Electrolyte derangements
- Advanced fluid therapy management
- Critically ill, high-acuity patients
- You will function as a true specialty nurse — anticipating complications, verifying calculations, and actively contributing to case management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced nursing support for nephrology and dialysis patients
- Assist with and monitor hemodialysis treatments
- Place and manage NG tubes, central lines, and PICC lines
- Perform advanced vascular access procedures
- Independently monitor critically ill patients and respond to clinical changes
- Prepare and maintain dialysis equipment and supplies
- Collaborate closely with our boarded Criticalist/Nephrologist
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding procedures and patient care

Requirements
Job Requirements
- Active CVT licensure
- Strong ECC or specialty background preferred
- Experience with central lines and/or PICC lines preferred
- Confidence managing high-acuity patients
- Advanced medical math and pharmacology competency, including independent CRI calculations, weight-based dosing, drug dilutions, electrolyte supplementation, fluid therapy adjustments, and multi-step medication preparations
- Ability to recognize subtle clinical changes and escalate appropriately
- Strong critical thinking skills and composure under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Participation in an on-call rotation is required
